When I was pregnant with the Diva I used to call her my little symbiont.

As she’s gotten older, and is discovering things she truly loves on her own (and is mesmerized by them – showing me that I’ve just opened the door for her but she’s gone through it…) she often turns back to me when I least expect it, and comes to me seeking to rejoin the parental unit from which she exited nearly 5 years ago. continue reading…

Not only did we have a visitor in Ursine form on Thursday, but on Saturday a Squirrel had made it’s way into our mini-van.  We suspect that it came in through the back windows.

For living in a small city, I sure do seem to have a lot of fauna about my home.

It’s about 11:20PM on Monday night as I start writing this,  and my youngest child is still awake.  He opted for a nap very late today and I expect he’ll not be down for a while as he woke at 7PM, and is now playing with Daddy down stairs.

I’ll be joining them both down stairs in a bit, and will be spinning for little Dragonet’s baby blanket yarn.  I am holding off on getting new yarns listed in Etsy/Zibbet until I get this order finished, although I have this breathtaking turquoise that I need to wash, set and then re-skein after I’ve measured it.  It’s really lovely but I don’t want to just estimate the yardage on it, although we’re looking at about 4oo yards at least in fingering weight.

I really am toying with motorizing my darn drum carder.  I think that if I land a new QA contract soon that it will be on the shopping list.  I have had requests for custom blends as well in batt form, and a brick and mortar store interested in my materials too.  The only way I’ll keep up is if I can get the right equipment to do this level of processing.

So – Daughter is sound asleep, son sounds like he’ll be up for a while, I’ve gotten my new yarn labels / wrappers made and saved and now I think I will go down stairs and spin for a while.  Hopefully the baby will be tired soon enough as I think this is going to be a long week for us.

The Diva’s recital is Sunday and I have a meeting for the Room Mom’s tomorrow, her last class on Wednesday and dress rehearsal on Saturday.  I think that by next week I’ll be able to come up for air and not stress too much on the homeschooling for the Diva…

I found this really wonderful journal record of a young woman written in 1790. It was nice reading about spinning done at that day… the link is thanks to Old Sturbridge Village, and I have to say I’m pretty pleased with what I’ve found with their site.

The reasons are pretty clear in the post here… click the read more and it will all make sense and you will even get to see why I got teary eyed today. continue reading…
